AYTON FAMILY HISTORY

This page is dedicated to the history of the Ayton family, bankers, probably of London and Macclesfield, Cheshire

A notable 18th century Ayton family were bankers and appear to have had links with Macclesfield, Cheshire. Mary Ayton (1739-1770) married Benjamin Westall (1736-1794) and was the mother of Richard Westall R.A. (1765-1836) whose life and career is discussed on the Westall website. Various Ayton relatives were painted by Richard Westall, and several feature in his correspondence, including Fanny Ayton (opera singer and actress) and John Ayton (Richard's close companion, whose 1829 death and burial at St. Pancras is described in the letters).

This family is being researched by Richard J Westall, descendant of Richard's half-brother William Westall A.R.A. (1781-1850).
