NOTES ON PREVIOUS RESEARCH

Apart from the large number of patron submission entries in the IGI for the Brain family of Gloucestershire, and a number of Pedigree Resource file submissions, various other previous research has come to light which it is intended to summarise below.

In 1988, W Anthony Brain produced a comprehensive summary of Brain wills relating to Bristol and Gloucestershire which draws on the PCC, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Bristol and post-1858 central probate records. A copy is held in the Society of Genealogists library.

The Bigland pedigree collection appears to contain a number of references relating to the Brains of Hanham, Bitton, Kingswood and Littledean (XV 74-8, 80-1).
