HOCKEY FAMILY HISTORY

SOME NOTES ON THE HOCKEY FAMILIES OF THE CHARLTON MACKRELL AREA

Henry Hockey and John Hockey (yeoman) of Charlton Adam were both granted marriage licences in the 1680's, and so far these are the earliest references to the family found in the area. George Hockey married Elizabeth Doverdale in Charlton Mackrell in 1704, and the Hockey family appear to have continued to flourish in this and neighbouring parishes down to recent times, with numerous mentions in the registers and churchwardens' accounts.  

Research on this line is still at an early stage, although IGI patron submissions relating to some family members suggest that their genealogy may have been explored previously. Anyone with an interest in this line is invited to contact Ian Hall.
