3RD CHISWICK SCOUT GROUP

The 3rd Chiswick Scout Group was founded in 1909 and recently celebrated its centenary at its home at Scouthaven, Wilson Walk, Prebend Gardens, Chiswick (adjacent to Stamford Brook tube station). The group is part of the Acton, Brentford and Chiswick district of the Greater London Middlesex West Scouts, and is the largest and oldest Scout Group in the area.

Scouting can be great fun at all levels, and gives children and young adults a chance to make new friends, enjoy a wide variety of games and activities, explore the outdoor world, and learn a variety of new skills within the context of the Scout Association approach to personal development. Scouting can also be a very fulfilling experience for the adult leaders and helpers involved in running the Group, and some notes are provided below for anyone with an interest in getting involved. The Group is split into several sections, described below.

Beavers

Beavers is the first section of the Scouting family and is open to boys and girls aged 6 to 8. The group meets on Thursday nights from 5.40 pm to 6.45 pm.
Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others.
For further details, please contact Neal Andrews (the Group Scout Leader) on 07976 520747.

Explorer Scouts

Explorer scouts are aged between 14 and 18 years old. The group meets on Thursday nights from 8.00 pm to 9.30 pm.
They get the chance to work with other Explorer Scouts across the district and county, working together with like-minded friends on activities aimed at achieving the Duke of Edinburgh or Chief Scout's Award. For further details, please contact Neal Andrews (above) or Glenn Young on 07966 379139.

Scout Network programmes (covering ages 18 to 25) will reflect the huge variation in Members' interests. Some local Networks will have activities that concentrate on one area of the programme, whilst others will have a wider range, but all activities are aimed at gaining nationally recognised qualifications or awards, such as the Duke of Edinburgh or Queen's Scout Award. For further information about joining Scout Network, please contact the The District Commissioner for Acton, Brentford and Chiswick, Janet Coles on 020 8560 1076.

Leadership

The 3rd Chiswick is always interested in finding new adult members who would like to participate in the leadership of the various sections. Scout leadership can be great fun and can span a wide range of activities - as much or as little as you have time for. We try to enable adult participation across a range of levels, from occasional help with specific activities or meetings, through planning for games, camps or social events, all the way through to full warranted leadership, and we would encourage anyone with a desire to get involved to contact Neal Andrews (above). For individuals new to the area, helping out in Scouting can be a great way to get to know people and to become more involved in the local community.

Further information about Scouting in general can be obtained from www.scouts.org.uk and www.scoutbase.org.uk.
