The Ainsty Sayers

Returning to Michael Sayer Snr, his younger son Thomas (1788) married Jane Linfoot, became a schoolmaster in Nun Monkton, near York , had at least 8 children, and died at nearby Heworth in 1857.  Thomas’ son John (1819-1863) also became a schoolmaster and was running a boarding school with his younger brother Thomas at Skipwith by the time of the 1851 census. Interestingly, one of the pupils at Skipwith school was 12 year old William Volans, whose older sister, Ellen, John married in 1854. (The couple went on to have at least 3 children at Nether Poppleton near York but it is thought that perhaps only one, Thomas the youngest, lived to adulthood)
